"Music can heal the wounds that medicine cannot touch," - Dr. Debasish Mridha
At Rajam’s Gurukulam, our therapeutic approach is inspired by ancient Indian wisdom and the philosophy of Nāda Brahmam—the idea that sound is a powerful force for balance and healing. By connecting specific swaras and their subtle tonal variations with the body’s chakra system, we use musical resonance to support both mental and physical well-being.
Our practices draw from Nāda Anusandhāna, using techniques such as Omkāra, Ākāra, and Mmkāra, along with sustained swaras to gently guide energy flow and promote inner harmony. Through teaching and research, we aim to revive the healing potential of Indian rāgas and share these sound-based methods for relaxation, stress relief, and overall wellness.
Today, Rajam’s Gurukulam offers these traditional practices through structured online courses, making this knowledge accessible in a guided and contemporary way.
Benefits of Our Training
Our programs help musicians, wellness practitioners, and individuals interested in chakras and sound therapy understand how musical resonance can influence emotional and energetic balance. Through guided practice, participants learn how to apply swaras, microtonal nuances, and rāga structures as tools for well-being—even without prior musical training.

About Rajam’s Gurukulam
Rajam’s Gurukulam is dedicated to the study and transmission of the healing and transformative aspects of Indian classical music. Rooted in ancient Bharatiya knowledge systems, the Gurukulam explores the connection between swaras, microtonal resonance, chakras, and human consciousness as pathways to mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
Through structured teaching, experiential practices, and ongoing research, the Gurukulam brings together musicians and seekers to rediscover music in its original sacred role—as a means of inner alignment, balance, and healing.

Our Philosophy
At Rajam’s Gurukulam, music is approached not merely as a performance art but as sādhana — a disciplined inner practice rooted in the ancient Bharatiya Gurukula paramparā. Our teachings explore how sound, breath, and rhythm can support sustained mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
Drawing from classical sources such as the Saṅgīta Ratnākara, Ayurvedic principles, and practices like prāṇāyāma and mudrā, we have developed a structured approach that uses musical vibration as a pathway to balance and healing. Each swara is studied for its relationship with the chakra system, emotional rasas, and the deeper layers of human consciousness.
Through this integrated tradition—aligned with Nāda Yoga and Rāga Chikitsā—Rajam’s Gurukulam aims to reconnect music with its original purpose: a path for inner alignment, healing, and higher awareness.

What makes us unique?
Rajam’s Gurukulam follows a distinctive protocol for working with emotions through sound and vibration, developed from over 30 years of experience and research. Our approach explains not only which rāgas to use, but also why specific swaras and rāgas influence emotional and energetic balance.
The method centers on chakra activation through Nāda Anusandhāna, supported by simple daily practices that participants can continue independently for long-term well-being.
By connecting traditional knowledge with human anatomy and everyday life, our system bridges ancient wisdom with modern understanding, allowing it to complement both Western and traditional healing practices.
RESULTS
Participants often find the practices easy to connect with and apply in their daily lives. Many share that the knowledge gained is practical and accessible, allowing them to consciously use sound and music for personal well-being.
Over the past 35 years, the methodology has been applied in more than 3000 documented cases by Dr. Rajam Shanker, with additional cases supported by her trained students. The work has reached learners and clients across India, Singapore, USA, UK, Switzerland, New Zealand, and Australia, reflecting its growing global relevance.
